Repsol S.A. engaged EDYMAC to evaluate MSW-to-chemicals pathways and transfer real-world operating knowledge into the FEL-2/FEL-3 development of its Ecoplanta project in Tarragona, Spain.
EDYMAC developed an extensive technical training program covering the principal equipment used to convert MSW into chemicals, along with the balance-of-plant systems required to support continuous operation.
Drawing on experience from pioneering MSW conversion projects, EDYMAC identified operational nuances, equipment interfaces, historical failure modes, and design considerations that are difficult to capture in conventional engineering documentation.
The findings were delivered through a detailed technical report and more than 24 hours of direct subject-matter sessions with Repsol's engineering and project teams.
The knowledge transfer informed targeted design modifications and operating considerations intended to improve facility performance, reliability, and the team's understanding of how to design and operate an MSW-to-chemicals facility.
The engagement combined independent technical evaluation with direct knowledge transfer—putting hard-won operating experience inside the client's own engineering organization.

Bringing specialized operating experience into the design before the design is locked.
EDYMAC combines hard earned experience with direct knowledge transfer to help project teams understand not only how a process works, but where the nuances are that cause it to struggle in commercial operation.
Deep Equipment & Technology Review
Guide technical and operations teams through the conversion technologies and essential balance-of-plant systems required for continuous MSW processing.
Operational Risk Mapping
Develop and deliver a comprehensive evaluation of complex friction points, historical failure modes, and integration challenges providing comprehensive technical guidance.
Knowledge Transfer
Work directly with the client's engineering and project teams to transfer practical operating knowledge and build internal technical authority.
Design Optimization
Translate operational lessons into specific engineering considerations and design modifications while the project remains early enough for changes to have meaningful impact.
Hands-On Through Every Step
Practitioner-led knowledge transfer combining equipment-level evaluation, operational risk analysis, intensive knowledge transfer, and direct input into pre-FEL-3 engineering.
Comprehensive Technology Evaluation
Developed an extensive technical report detailing core MSW-to-chemicals equipment, crucial support systems, and systemic operational nuances.
Intensive SME Knowledge Transfer
Conducted more than 24 hours of structured technical sessions with Repsol's engineering experts and project team, translating complex operating experience into practical design and operating knowledge.
Operational & Interface Mapping
Identified equipment interfaces, balance-of-plant considerations, and operational friction points that could affect reliability and continuous MSW processing.
Design Modification Support
Applied real-world insights directly to the project development process, helping the team incorporate targeted changes into the evolving design.
Don't just bring in expertise. Transfer it.
Strategic Impact & Outcomes
Acting as a force multiplier, EDYMAC helped Repsol strengthen both the design and the internal capability required to evaluate and operate a complex MSW-to-chemicals facility.
Technical Knowledge Base
Delivered a comprehensive technical and operational framework covering core conversion technologies, supporting systems, equipment interfaces, and commercial operating considerations.
Internal Capability Built
Empowered Repsol’s engineering leadership through intensive SME training on real-world MSW plant operations and design friction points.
Critical Design Points
Identified vital interfaces to eliminate future operational failure points.
Reliability Considerations Embedded
Introduced real-world operating and maintainability considerations into pre-FEL-3 engineering, strengthening the foundation for reliable commercial operation.
Experience only creates value when it changes the next decision. Knowledge documented is useful. Knowledge transferred changes outcomes.
