EDYMAC's founder and Managing Director, Jim Stonecipher, served as COO of Advano, an early-stage battery materials company developing silicon-based anode technology for lithium-ion batteries.

Advano developed a novel process to produce silicon nanoparticles encapsulated in an elastic carbon structure, designed to increase lithium-ion battery power density.

As COO, Jim led the laboratory and operational teams through product formulation, customer qualification, pilot planning, and the transition toward commercial scale.

Jim directed the production of material samples selected by Panasonic for further laboratory evaluation and developed the operating strategy for Advano's initial pilot plant, establishing the pathway to demonstrate TRL 6 performance at scale.

He also developed the company's commercial scale-up strategy, including a modular manufacturing approach tied to customer demand and a shortlist of potential production sites.

On the cost side, Jim analyzed the operating cost structure and identified a pathway to reduce projected operating costs by 40% through improved raw material sourcing and a Joint Development Agreement with a key supplier.

Working alongside the CEO, he also supported fundraising and capital strategy as the company prepared for its next stage of growth.
